Abstract. The effect of Ca fertilization on Cd accumulation in spinach and on its dry matter, ascorbic acid and mineral contents were determined. Increasing doses of calcium carbonate decreased the Cd uptake by the plants.
Key words:
spinach, calcium, cadmium, uptake
Summary
In the pot experiment the effect of increasing doses of calcium carbonate (0, 0.5, 2.0 g∙dm-3) on the contents of Cd, dry matter, ascorbic acid and some minerals in the spinach leaves was studied. Increasing doses of calcium fertilizer decreased the Cd accumulation by the plants. High content of Cd was accompanied by the lower dry matter and N-nitrate contents. There was not a significant effect of Ca concentration in the root zone on the content of ascorbic acid in the spinach leaves.
